Today, 6th December 2013, we are mourning yesterday’s passing of one of the world’s Spiritually Intelligent leaders. Like many leaders of our time, Nelson Mandela came from a background that shaped much of his thinking in later life. He was brought up by a local Thimbu King after his father died, and spent much time listening to the elders of his Xhosa Tribe. This period, surrounded mostly by fellow blacks, began to shape his belief in the value and equality of all, regardless of the colour of their skin. Read More

One of the key teachings of the spiritual text A Course in Miracles is “you are the light of the world.” This means that each and every one of us, without exception, is this light that The Course speaks of that we can bring into the world. We are that light on our good days and on our bad days. We are that light when things are going wrong and when things are going well. We are this light regardless of what is going on in our world. This light within us never fades nor diminishes, however bad we may have been. Read More

The spiritual text A Course in Miracles (ACIM) is a three part book containing a text, a workbook and a manual for teachers. The workbook is a 365 day mind training programme based on Universal spiritual truths and it is said to be the channelled teachings of Jesus. Although written in Christian language, I sense it is both Buddhist and Taoist in its teachings and through working with it you obtain a very different perspective on life. The main focus of ACIM is on the re-training of the workings of our minds through forgiveness and the recognition of the profound effect that has on our lives and the lives of those around us. There are a plethora of coaches these days. Everything from style coaches, success coaches, business coaches and creativity coaches. All of these coaches have in common the desire to create change for you in some way. Through a variety of techniques, they hope to move you from “A” to “B” so that at “B,” you are where you want to be. There is much value in this approach, and yet the route to “B” most often involves making things happen and taking massive action, based on what looks logical and realistic in your given situation. Sometimes we just do not know when we are about to enter a massive journey in faith and trust. Often a clue is that we are moving through some sort of change, for with any change, there is always a degree of uncertainty and a possibility that things may not go as expected. I think this if often why we resist change because one of our basic human needs is for certainty and yet we all have to be able to live with varying degrees of uncertainty in our lives. In fact too much certainty can get boring. Read More
We have all experienced the pain of being rejected: we didn’t get the job that we had hoped for, we didn’t get the part we wanted, someone who we care about alienates us and the one we love doesn’t want us. Whatever the cause, it is not a palatable emotion to deal with and if we are not very careful it can lead us into feelings of being unloved, unwanted and unworthy. And yet in truth, everything that is meant for you will not go by you and we have to know that if we didn’t get the situation or person we wanted, it is because there is someone and something better coming our way. But, it is one thing knowing that and it is another thing dealing with the emotions that come up when we feel rejected and hurt. Read More
